Mayo is leading the way in county pride. May 2, 2015 is now a dedicated day to celebrate your Mayo origins.
Mayo Day is set to be a celebration of our ‘Mayo-ness’ in Mayo communities around the world. The day is intended to be a celebration of the ‘Spirit of Mayo’ in Mayo communities and we intend to use this unique opportunity on an annual basis to showcase all that is great about our county and its people.
To celebrate Mayo Day 2015, in Westport there will be a ‘Spraoi at the Quay’ at 7pm. There will be various entertainment on the day including ‘The Wild Atlantic Show’, which is an exhilarating Irish music and dance show set in coastal Ireland. Join our all star cast of traditional Irish musicians and dancers at the Quay in Westport for a breathtaking show featuring world champions and internationally renowned performers.
The countdown to this global party has now started and we look forward to joining the celebrations and helping to turn the world Green and Red for the day!
The Clare Island Adventure Race 2015 is also set to take place on Saturday, 2nd May 2015.
This event will appeal to both experienced and novice adventure racers. For the seasoned adventurers there is the full course at €45 and for beginners, the spirit race at €35. Both will be a challenging and exhilarating experience!
You can also make the day of it as they are holding an after-race party in the Sailor’s Bar with live music and rocking banter. The bar also offers a really tasty menu with Mains ranging in price from €13 to €22. So, we recommend you book yourself into the highly comfortable Go Explore Hostel and make a night of it!
broadcast live from the Royal Theater in Castlebar on 2nd May (8pm-10pm). The two hour long show produced by IRISH TV and broadcast on Sky channel 191 will be a celebration of County Mayo – its heritage, culture and its people- and will contain a mix of performances, music and chat in a gala-style setting.
