As strange as it might seem in this digital age, Young Adult fiction has been selling like never before – driving the growth of major publishers, and filling the shelves of mainstream bookshops. Thankfully, generation after generation continues to hunger after a good story, and the teenage reader loves to explore the world around her/him and is also ever ready to take the risk of venturing into places of fantasy.

Helen will talk about what she has learned about writing for young adults. She invites the writers and readers who attend the workshop to share their experiences from either side of the complex writer/reader relationship, which meets in the imaginary place we call ‘the story’. Writers can bring a short piece to read aloud, and readers can discuss the sort of books they would like to read.
