Culture Night 2014 – Explore, Experience, Enjoy!

Culture Night 2014 will take place on September 19^th and plans are afoot to make the night an unforgettable cultural experience for Mayo audiences.  Cultural organisations and groups are busily preparing varied programmes of activity for the evening.  Mayo has been participating in the national event since 2009 and the number of participants has steadily grown and this year 23 groups and venues will be sharing and showcasing a wide variety of cultural events on the night.

This year’s event marks the sixth year of Culture Night in Mayo and people of all ages across the county are encouraged to take advantage of this night of cultural adventure and discovery, as participating cultural venues and groups nationwide pull out all the stops to produce an unforgettable and unique evening of FREE cultural experiences for all to enjoy. Last year almost 2,000 people engaged with Culture Night across Mayo and we expect even more to join in the cultural celebration this year.

The event in Mayo has been extremely well received both by participating venues and audiences.  This year Mayo is hoping to build on the success of last year’s event by continuing to provide an evening of interesting events for Mayo people to attend and enjoy.  Regardless of where you are in the county there will be a Culture Night event taking place nearby with events planned for Acaill, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballintubber, Ballycastle, Ballycroy, Belmullet, Bohola, Ceathrú Thaidhg, Castlebar, Claremorris, Laherdane, Louisburgh, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Turlough & Westport. 

Imagination and creativity are abundantly apparent in the excellent programmes that have made past Culture Nights extremely successful and 2014 will not disappoint.  Planned activities include family workshops, films, tours, demonstrations, exhibitions, performances, outdoor poetry events, craft displays, music seisiúns and much, much more!  With free events taking place throughout the county and catering for all ages, there is bound to be something for everyone!

Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht in partnership with Mayo County Council.  Mid West Radio will again be lending it’s support to the night as media sponsor for the event and so please keep your radio tuned to the local station for regular updates in the lead up to September 19^th.  The event provides cultural organisations with an occasion to showcase to local communities and visitors, the wealth and variety of cultural activity that exists in Mayo, while also celebrating the county’s excellent cultural reputation on a national platform.
