Welcome to the Burrishoole Walking Festival

The Burrishoole Walking Festival has been in existence since 1987. Organised by local Burrishoole volunteers this is a very unique walking festival and it takes you right into the heart of Burrishoole and the “hidden Ireland”. Local knowledge of the Burrishoole area is a very important part of gaining the proper experience and all our trained guides are from the area. The majority of our guides are local farmers and as such their knowledge of the Burrishoole local heritage, folklore, customs and flora & fauna are invaluable.

During the past 27 years since the launch of the Burrishoole Walking Festival, the event has been attended by visitors from all over the world and by local walking enthusiasts. Life long friends have been made and they always look forward to the get-together in the evenings where food and entertainment are provided. 

Festival walkers usually depart from the old Derrada National School (a piece of local history in itself) and meet up there again in the evening. A local transport company run by Jackie Rumley (+353 98 36144) provide transport to and from your accomodation. There is entertainment every evening.

The Burrishoole Walking Festival is organised by a group of local volunteers.
